This is a beginning level workshop for folks who want to experience the joy and personal satisfaction of building your own ukulele. When the class concludes you get to take home a one-of-a-kind instrument, and bask in the glow of an unforgettable weekend. This three-day adventure is limited to just 4 participants.
We’ll build Concert ukuleles in this class, beginning with a collection of component parts handcrafted by Scott Hausmann specifically for the workshop. These will include:
- front and back Mahogany plates
- delicately-bent Mahogany sides
- rough-shaped Mahogany neck
- Sitka spruce brace stock
- Rosewood bridge
- Rosewood fingerboard
In class Scott and Lisa will guide you through each step of the process from gluing and shaping the braces, to completing the rim assembly, to building the body. You’ll also learn how to prepare the fingerboard, install the frets, and shape the neck. After we assemble our instruments, your instructors will finally assist you in fine tuning your ukulele so it plays like a charm.
This workshop involves working with your hands, and using various hand and powered tools. Participants should expect to be standing much of the time during class. Please don’t hesitate to contact Scott if you have any questions.
