Course Description

Whetstone-Tenor-Ukulele

In this intermediate level class you’ll learn how to make a Tenor ukulele from start to finish. We’ll make basic instruments similar to the very popular Collings UT1, that will let you get your feet wet and learn some of the fundamentals of instrument making. In class you’ll fabricate the various components, shape the neck, assemble the ukulele, and fine tune the set-up so it plays beautifully.

Your instructor will build a ukulele along with the class, demonstrating each step in the process. This way you can observe each operation before completing it on your instrument. Our procedures are well documented, and students receive a course manual for their use.

Student Qualifications

This is an intermediate level hands-on course. We work full days in the shop, and need to maintain a steady pace to complete our instruments on schedule. Some recent woodworking experience, or a demonstrated proficiency working with your hands is required for this class. Instrument making experience itself is not necessary, but a general familiarity with ukulele construction is beneficial.

We can help you make sure you’re prepared for the class, so don’t be bashful about contacting us to discuss your qualifications – we’re happy to assist you.
